The clones thing wasn’t that surprising, I was just waiting for the confirmation. The whole Earth and Astra thing was kinda predictable, too, but quite a twist even then.

The anime cut this, but Yunhua accidentally brought her mother’s toothbrush and Zack brought something of his father’s that they were able to get DNA samples off of. This confirmed they were clones.
In this story clones have full human rights. It’s illegal to make them, but only the people who created them would be punished. I’ve read the comments and a lot of people have been tossing the clone theory around for a while now, some even since the second episode when we found out Funi was adopted.
I don’t see much contention between Attack of the Clones and this beyond being in space and having clones. The clones in Star Wars were mass produced to build an army. They knew they were clones from the start. They also had a limited life span by design. It was so they could enter service in less then a decade so you didn’t have to wait a life time to get your product. Boba Fett seemed to be doing just fine by the time episode VI came around. The clones in Astra likely don’t have a shorten lifespan.
I’ve never actually seen The Island, but that might be a better correlation. Commenters keep bringing it up.
The word “Earth” hasn’t been mentioned in this anime until last week when Poline thought it.
Planet Astra is 2,000 light years away from space ship Astra when they took that image. Logic dictates that the image would be of Astra 2,000 years ago, but I have no idea if the anime follows that law of physics.
I dunno about the comedy’s problem though.
There was the bombshell, they cried, were distraught, then they settled down a bit, with Kanata, being the captain, going around asking how the other crew members are doing.
There were enough alleviation of tension in those scenes, especially with the scene between Zack, Quitterie and Funi. Therefore, it bridges the tones of the heaviness of the cloning reveal and the light-heartedness of the (imo quite funny) comedic scene.
I’d say it’s done very well.
Probably just taste though.
Explaining adult behaviour as if you’re speaking for all adults is quite hilarious, though also kind of hard to watch XD
Astra has a completely different history than our Earth as mentioned in the Charce episode describing his kingdom.
There was a world government established in the 1960s or 70s (I forgot the specifics), only one monarchy (Charce’s) remains on (what we now know as) Astra, there might be one more clue but I forgot.
I see this as a mystery anime, and an amazing one at that. It’s doesn’t do asspulls, it establishes and puts hints either in the background or straightup, like in each planet, the planet’s possible dangers are hinted at at the beginning, then revealed at the end with the viewer being able to clue in to what will happen.
This IS a great mystery anime, a pretty good scifi anime, and a decent light-comedy anime.
I’m sure when the series ends ALL of the answers will be revealed. And it won’t come as too much of a shock, it shouldn’t be. It was all laid out.
Cause the truth is: The game was rigged from the start.
Luca refers to himself as he and registered as male (see Zomblieland Saga). In the human society human rights applies to humans, the birth method doesn’t matter.
I don’t think life span of clones could be any shorter becase it contradicts the point of creating them in the first place.
