So I gave that QR code a shot and it actually links to the Japanese Shonen Jump rather than the US one, and without a referral link of any sort as far as I can tell. So I can only assume that it was there in the original scan and MS just added their watermark to the side for reasons?

What software are you using to select the text in the image?
I’m trying to find good OCR software, and no luck so far.

Your comments about ‘warm’ and appealing qualities of nomadic existence are interesting in that there is an analogy to the overarching story structure of jump / long-running episodic as well as slice of life manga (and episodic literature of all kinds, really, books and tv shows can fit into a similar hierarchy); also a similarity to the kind of survival based gameplay in stuff like Don’t Starve. There’s kind of a perpetual search to satisfy a very basic & universal positive feedback loop. Probably slice of life as a genre is a closer comparison than the other jump stuff, where people get upset with filler content and there’ an overall plot direction. But in stuff like SOL, it’s fundamentally about finding a pleasant way to present a day-to-day form of existence that’s generally bereft of interdicting plot elements that might disrupt the loop. It’s interesting looking for what makes these kind of modes enjoyable and interesting (and when they aren’t). Just a guess, but there’s a possible attribution that, if it’s simple enough, there’s a very low barrier to self-insertion in these kinds of stories, and simultaneously while being engaging there isn’t a large intellectual exertion from having to deal with lots of ‘variation’ in the story.
